Lady Margaret Holiday Cottage
Lady Margaret Cottage sleeps 4 and is next door to the 16th century Fordyce Castle. Fordyce is one of the gems of North East Scotland. Based on a medieval town plan, Fordyce originally grew up around the 11th century Christian community founded by the Celtic saint Talarican. There is the remains of a healing well in the village and an almost forgotten altar stone on the nearby Fordyce Hill. In 1499 due to its increasing importance as a religious centre, Fordyce became a feudal barony and Bishop Elphinstone of Aberdeen became the first Baron of Fordyce. Within the centre of the village is the historic kirkyard and the remains of the kirk dating back to the 16th century. Next door to the historic kirk is Fordyce Castle which was built in 1592. Fordyce Castle is a very pretty fairy tale like castle standing in the centre of the village. Lady Margaret Cottage is named after Lady Margaret Ogilvie, the beautiful daughter of the Alexander Ogilvie of Durne who married Thomas Menzies of Kirkhill for whom Fordyce Castle was built.
Lady Margaret Cottage is a luxury cottage comfortably sleeping 4 people in a four poster double bedroom and a twin bedroom with two single brass beds. The cottage is very comfortably furnished and the lounge and kitchen look over and have full access to the Castle garden. The bathroom has a slipper bath and separate shower. The kitchen is large with an electric range cooker and a table that would comfortably seat 8. The cottage comes with complimentary wifi. The accommodation is all on one floor.
